Neighborhood Walk: Episode 1

One thing I’d like to do a little more of this year is actually using my camera for the not-obvious things like vacations or birthday parties or whatever. I want to be more comfortable just playing with it, and looking for compositions I’d like to photograph. Last weekend we had a gorgeously sunny day for January, and I packed up my camera and lenses and started walking around my neighborhood.

I will never tire of photographic tree trunks!

I love this so much with the light coming through the leaves!

Yes, I totally crept onto some stranger’s front porch to (quickly!) grab this shot. I’m a creeper, I guess, when awesome door knockers are involved!

This tree had dozens of bright blue glass bottles hanging from the branches, they were so cool looking!

  1. I really like the door knocker shot. There’s just something cool about it, plus the effort you needed to get it. Risks make the best shots sometimes.

And you certainty can’t go wrong with beautiful knockers.

I really think you should put together a photo book with some of your shots. You have quite a library, and your eye for composition, texture, and color is excellent. I’m sure you could sell a few and make a little cash, and a printed book for the coffee table is always a good thing. Think about it. ๐Ÿ™‚

    1. Ha! Thanks for the giggle!

I’ve thought about putting a book together, but I also keep talking about a gallery wall…and that is considerably easier and hasn’t happened yet either. Ahem. I need to step up my game, clearly!

    1. I actually have started scheduling in “photo session” where I take a walk or something JUST to take pictures. The tail end of last year my poor camera wallowed in it’s bag in it’s bin, and I don’t want that to happen again. I can see my photos getting better and more interesting, and I don’t want to lose those steps, ya know?

  2. Thanks for your comment a while ago. Those are some great pictures! I have barely touched my camera in the past few months, but with spring starting soon, I think I will have more opportunities for it again soon. I take everyday pictures with my phone.

    1. I was in a camera rut (and my cell phone camera is sucky), I had to make some serious committments to myself to force myself to pull out the big camera. Which is ridiculous, becase as soon as I start taking pics I remember how much I enjoy it, and when I pull them up on my computer I am always surprised as how my skills are improving. That is all much easier to say than do, of course. ๐Ÿ˜‰
